1950

Banbury Sailing Club formed

1951

Championship Series for Merlin Rockets started

1960s

Clubhouse moves from southern dam to present site.  Old green hut floated over on pontoons.
Road to new site built with help of Massey Ferguson.
Cricket pavilion bought second hand from Northampton Technical College and installed with help from Wellesbourne RAF station.

1974

Telephone installed at the club.
Midday Series for Merlin Rockets started.

1976

Lockheed SC members join BSC.
First bar licence granted & bar built in lounge area.
Clubhouse connected to mains water but power supplied by a generator & lighting by calor gas.

1978

Existing duty box built.
Norman Parker takes over as Bar Chairman.
Tiger Moth biplane G-AIVW visits in October & again in 1979 & 1980.

1979

Pontoon formation changed from three spurs leading from bank to a T-shaped formation.
Electricity provided to club for the first time.

1981

Firefly National Junior Championship hosted.  Robert & Claire Gallimore finished 4th in under 18s with Felicity & Rebecca Rawlings 3rd in the under 16s.
First shower unit installed in the Ladies Changing Room.

1984

Southern dam raised & strengthened by British Waterways.
Menagerie fleet formed.

1985

Polytechnic Colleges National Team Racing Championships staged over three days.

1986

Clubhouse clad in cedar shingles.
Sail training programme started.
Small balcony built at south western end of the clubhouse.

1989

Laser Fleet formed.

1991

Weather vane presented by George Smith

1992

Ditch between duty box and slipway filled in by Merlin Rocket fleet and Merlins move to this area.

1993

Balcony designed & built by Mike Taylor with the help of other members.
First family fun day run.

1995

Ladies Changing Rooms refurbished & expanded.
Sailing curtailed in autumn by drought.

1996

Upgrade of electricity supply to 2 phase.
Sailing curtailed in late summer/autumn by drought.

1997

BSC website designed and launched by Richard Turner.
Power & new stairs provided to duty box.
Bill Mansfield Memorial Trophy race started - won by John Bonete.

1998

Autumn Series starts.

1999

Comet Fleet formed

2000

50th anniversary celebrated by an Anniversary Ball in June in marquee.
The History of Banbury Sailing Club by John Green published.

2001

Club closed from mid-March to late May by Foot & Mouth Epidemic.
Bar store and duty box encased in steel plate to prevent break-ins.

2002

Green shed (the original clubhouse) lifted off foundations in November gale.

2004

Green shed (the original clubhouse) demolished.
BOG entry in Round the Island Race holed and retired but won subsequent protest.
Men's Changing Room refurbished and the Bar re-built & expanded.

2005

Lottery bid successful: Club buys 6 Toppers and 2 405s for Junior Section.

2006

Norman Parker retires as Bar Chairman having started in 1978.
BW carry out extensive work on western & northern dams to reface & reinforce the western dam as well as building fishing platforms into both dams.  Very low water levels from November through to following February. First sections of plastic pontoon installed.

2007

Very hot in April but from mid-May onwards very wet with extensive flooding all over the Midlands.  Boddington was full in late August!
BSC wins Spar, Tiller & Daggerboard competition against Hollowell & Cransleigh SCs at first attempt.

2008

Central heating installed. Failed to retain Spar, Tiller & Daggerboard. Training Cabin installed. Plastic pontoons extended.

2009

Car park and roadways levelled and improved. Club becomes a Volvo Championship Club.
