This Midland Travellers' Series Event took
place in dull damp conditions with the mainly force 4 northwesterly wind blowing down the
length of the lake, allowing the race officer to set a course with satisfying reaches and
runs which had to be paid for in the form of long hard beats. Competition among the 22
boats taking part was fierce with the tie break at the end for 1st , 2nd and 3rd place
being decided on discards. The first race was lead by Chris Brown from the start, although there was much movement in the next 4 places throughout the race. Eventually David Liddington was second and Ian Capener third. The second race took place in slightly drier conditions with the wind abating slightly. Liddington slipped into 1st place halfway through the first lap and held this position to the end. Pye finished second and Colin Newton third. The wind, but fortunately not the rain returned for the third race and a new course was set. Pye led from the start. Capener, Brown and Jon Clarke changed places behind, with Brown finally finishing second and Capener third. Many thanks to all who helped make it a successful day. |
