Solo Open (Midland Traveller Series) 15th July  2006

The first race, which was won by Stuart Hydon of Shustoke, saw the first 4 places remaining unaltered for the entire race. Not so the second race. Several place changes amongst the first 4 finally resulted in Hydon making a well judged tack in the shifty conditions at buoy number 7, to take him from fourth to first position. This left Chris Brown who had led all the way, in second. Banbury sailors too had their own exhilarating place changes at this buoy with places lost or won on this last beat.

First place for the meeting now decided in Hydon’s favour, 19 boats took to the water for the last race. This time Brown, who had it sewn up early on, was never threatened and finished first, giving him an overall second place. Banbury boats still had various places undecided and there was some tough racing to the end. Dave Cornish was the first Banbury boat coming twelfth overall.

A remark overheard in the men’s changing room:- “ Nice day, nice place, pity about buoy number 7”. It did however mean that there was exciting and enjoyable racing throughout the fleet with positions constantly changing. A good day was had by all. Many thanks to all the helpers who made it possible.
