Clubhouse Development Project - January 17 Update
We are delighted to tell you that the Clubhouse Development Project is close to starting the main build phase, with the contractors scheduled to start on site on the 30th January.
After some very hard work and late nights we have managed to secure two grants for £15,000 each from South Northamptonshire District Council and Daventry District Council. This together with the £75,000 grant from Sport England and £2,800 from member's donations means we have sufficient funding to proceed. With all the funding in place we have appointed Skaino as the construction company for the main build.
As a reminder of what the project entails; we are adding a 90m2 extension to the south end of the clubhouse and re-configuring the decking in that area with new approach steps. The end wall of the current male changing will be broken through and that area combined with the extension will allow the creation of new female and male changing rooms which are approximately twice the areas of the respective existing rooms. Both will benefit from additional showers and toilets. The existing female changing will then be converted into a new indoor training classroom with large cupboards at the far end for training materials, cleaner's cupboard and a lost property store. At the same time the main clubroom will be refurbished with new panelling to complete the upgrade started with the new windows – we will be asking for volunteers who are proficient in carpentry (DIY or professional) to help with these work parties.
IMPORTANT – CHANGES TO CLUBHOUSE FACILITIES FOR MEMBERS DURING THE BUILDING WORKS
The main build is scheduled to be completed by the end of April so we have planned alternative facilities to allow us to continue with sailing, training and Open Meetings. Access to the building will change to the North Door, it will have an additional code pad for the alarm and a mechanical keypad lock; both will use the existing alarm code. The main room, galley, bar, female changing and disabled toilet will all be useable as normal. The existing main south door, decking and area to the south of the clubhouse where the BBQs and pedestrian gate used to be will be cordoned off as the construction site. The training cabin will be converted to provide temporary male changing and benches from the existing changing room will be moved into the cabin. The current disabled toiled will be available and we are anticipating having 'portaloos' next to the training cabin.
We hope that you will be as excited as us to see this project come to fruition; please do feel free to ask any of the group if you have any questions.
