Racing at the Club

Banbury Sailing Club has signed up to the Racing Charter .

The club organises racing on Sundays from March to December, Saturday racing for Novices during the Summer and Open meetings on Saturdays and Sundays throughout the year. Competition is keen but friendly, often with over 30 boats on the water. The boats race in fleets: Merlin Rocket; Laser; GP14Solo; Comet; and Menagerie .


Sunday Race series
 
  • Midday (12 noon start) which is run in fleets i.e. Merlins sail against Merlins, Lasers against Lasers, etc, but with a mass start. Runs from March to the end of August.

  • Championship (2.15pm start) which is run in fleets with separate starts for each fleet.  Runs from March to the end of August.

  • Autumn Series (12 noon and 2.00pm starts) runs in Fleets with a mass start.  This series runs in September and October.

  • Winter Series (11.30 and 1.30 starts) runs in November and December based on handicap with a mass start.

  • Early Bird (10.30 start) which is run as three handicap race series from March to October. The Spring and Summer series run together with the Junior Series - for those 18 or under.

  • 4 o'clock Races:

    • After Tea Series - a handicap series for all, run from June to August;

    • Single Handed - for the helm who wants to sail a two-person boat without a crew;

  • Personal Pursuit Races - run at various times during the season. Each boat and crew have a start time based on their experience and class of boat.

  • Robin Foster Race - a three hour or 10 lap handicap race for all boats.

  • Bill Mansfield Race - run as part of the Midday series. Occurs close to mid-summer.

  • Regatta Day - held in July. Special trophy for Juniors.

  • Christmas Race – held shortly after Christmas Day.

    A Notice of Race is available in the clubhouse for each of the series and races.

    Tea and cake is available at around 3.30 every Sunday in the racing season.

Open Meetings

Each main fleet runs an annual Open Meeting when visitors from other Clubs compete against Banbury sailors.  The Juniors have their own Open Meeting.
