Solo Fleet

Designed in 1955 by Jack Holt, the Solo is a `one design' class for singlehanded sailing which is sailed at many clubs in the UK, Holland and Australia. The controls to the design ensure that older boats remain competitive and the number of boats registered is in excess of 5,000.

  • Built in wood, GRP, foam sandwich together with composites of all three. Buoyancy tanks are built in to the hull.

  • Suitable for teenagers and adults, both male and female. Some sailing experience is useful. The ideal helm weight is 75kg (12 stone).

  • Easy to handle in and out of the water.

  • Some 16 boats are in the fleet at Banbury with friendly club level racing at weekends throughout the sailing season.

Portsmouth Number 1155
Length 3.78m; beam 1.55m
Weight 70kg

There is an active Class Association and more information can be found at the Solo web site.  Secondhand boats available from £500 - try the Solo Class web site ads pages.

If you would like to find out more, send the Class Captain, David Glanville an Email with your telephone number & address or come down to the club on a Sunday afternoon.
