TrainingOne of the benefits of membership of the Club is the extensive array of highly subsidised training which is available. Although courses are intended for Adult Club members, some may be appropriate & suitable for 14+. The courses carry a small charge to cover costs and certification. 2010 Training DatesCourse DetailRYA Start Dinghy SailingLevel 1 Start Sailing — introduction to the sport of sailing; Sailing with SpinnakersUnderstand how to sail a dinghy rigged with a symmetric or asymmetric spinnaker. The course is run at least once each year to ensure all have the opportunity of keeping up to date. Assistant InstructorTraining to take you to a level where you can assist instuctors with teaching sailing up to RYA Level 2 and also the first three stages of the Youth Sailing Scheme (i.e. Junior Sailing). Get Back on the WaterThe Club takes part in this RYA scheme where an instructor/coach assists 'returners' over a number of Wednesday evenings in the summer. The course is almost entirely practical on the water, so participants need to have their boats rigged and on the pontoon ready to sail at 6.30 pm. Therefore, this course is not suitable for those who are complete beginners, rather, for those who can at least prepare their boat and sail a triangular course on the water. More. OnBoardWe are also part of OnBoard, where youngsters from local organisations are encouraged to try out sailing, under suitable supervision. Other trainingMuch informal training goes on at other times — the newcomer to sailing will find many members willing to assist and advise. For more information please email. |
