Vintage Merlin Rocket OpenSaturday 2nd October 2010at Banbury Sailing ClubIf you own a Vintage Merlin Rocket and would like to race (not too seriously) against others of a similar vintage (at least 30 years old ie sail number 3065 and below), why not come along to our open meeting in 2007. First race will be at 11.00am with two further races at 1.30 & 3.30 approximately depending on lunch, how well the bar is doing and how keen the competitors are after lunch. The entry fee is £10 per boat and an excellent lunch, tea, coffee & tea is only £5 per person. The bar will be open and supporters can enjoy a leisurely drink on the balcony while watching the activity on the water. In 2006, we attracted 9 boats. In 2005, we saw boats from as far away as Aberdeen (Secret Water). Merlin Rockets have been sailed at Boddington Reservoir, the home of Banbury Sailing Club since shortly after the formation of the club in 1950. The first Merlin Rocket Silver Tiller Open meeting was held at BSC in 1952 and one has been held every year since with the exception of 2001, when access to the reservoir was closed due to foot and mouth. The Vintage Merlin Rocket Open has been held since 2003 and competition is for the original Banbury Cross Shield first awarded in 1952. For more information and / or details of local accommodation, send an email to the Merlin Rocket class captain Richard Turner |
