Main Racing Series overview

EARLY BIRD SERIES

The Early bird series is split into 3 seasons (Spring, Summer and Autumn).  This is a handicap series, with prizes awarded for each season.  Where available, trophies may also be awarded by fleet captains for highest placed boats in a fleet. This is usually a shorter course set on half the lake.

Race details: Mass start, First gun 1025hrs. Length of Race: 40 minutes for mid fleet boat.
Series qualifying criteria - A helm is deemed to have qualified when he/she has sailed in 40% or more races (rounded down).  A helm’s series score shall be taken from the best 40% of race scores from a series (rounded down).

MIDDAY SERIES 

This is a Multi-race, PY handicap series run throughout the Spring and Summer season. In addition to the series winners trophies, fleet trophies (where available) may also be awarded by fleet captains for highest placed boats in a fleet. Courses are usually set over the full lake.

Race details: Mass start. First gun not before 1145hrs. Length of Race: 60 minutes for a mid-fleet boat.Series qualifying criteria - A helm is deemed to have qualified when he/she has sailed in 40% or more races (rounded down).  A helm’s series score shall be taken from the best 40% of race scores from a series (rounded down).

CHAMPIONSHIP RACES 

Similar to the Midday series, this also runs throughout the Spring and Summer season and also scores using PY Hamdicaps. In addition to the series winners trophies, fleet trophies (where available) may also be awarded by fleet captains for highest placed boats in a fleet. Courses are usually set over the full lake.

Race details: Mass Start.  Two starts can be used if over 20 boats (PDO’s discretion).  First gun not before 1330hrs. Length of race 60 minutes for a mid fleet boat. Fleets start with fast boats first if there are two starts. Series qualifying criteria - A helm is deemed to have qualified when he/she has sailed in 40% or more races (rounded down).  A helm’s series score shall be taken from the best 40% of race scores from a series (rounded down).

AUTUMN SERIES (after the early bird race)

The Midday and Championship races are replaced in the Autumn by the Autumn series. Two races each day, after the earlybird race, scored using PY handicaps

Race details: Mass start. First race, first gun not before 1145hrs. Second race,  first gun not before 1330hrs.Length of Race  45 minutes for mid fleet boat. Series qualifying criteria - A helm is deemed to have qualified when he/she has sailed in 40% or more races (rounded down).  A helm’s series score shall be taken from the best 40% of race scores from a series (rounded down).
