Special Races and Series

We are running 2 mini series in 2018, one at the end of Spring and one in Autumn

Held over 4 weekends (the first three having the normal 3 races/day and the last weekend coinciding with the regatta weekend and having four races – therefore a total of 13 races).  Series qualifying criteria - 5 races to count.  The races also count to the main series (apart from the last race on the regatta day), so two results for the price of one!

The Regatta, incorporating the Godber Junior Trophy (spring regatta) and volvo trophy (autumn regatta) (for helms under the age of 18 at the start of the season) shall consist of four races held over a single day. Each race should be planned to be 45 minutes for the mid boat. For scoring, the best three races count. The format/timing for regatta may be varied at the discretion of the regatta organising committee and/or PDO. The first race signal will not be made before 1025hrs.

Our one endurance race, Mass Start,  handicap finish.  First gun 1215hrs. Length of race three hours or 10 laps, whichever is the shorter.

The midday race on a Sunday close to midsummer is raced for this trophy. It also counts as a normal class race in the Midday Series.  Mass Start,  handicap Finish.  First gun  not before 1145hrs. Length of race  - Midday race length.

For more information on this trophy please read the article on the website written by Bill's Wife

PURSUIT RACES (PERSONAL HANDICAP) An entry charge is made for each boat and a prize is given, normally a bottle of wine or soft drink and medal from the bar. Each competitor is given an individual handicap (in multiples of 1.5 mins).  Starting letters are used to denote the starting sequence (eg A represents 1.5 minutes after the start, E represents 7.5 minutes after the start).  You start as your start letter is taken down and you then have to chase the slower boats which have started in front. The race length is as close to 60 minutes as possible (as this is the duration the handicaps were calculated on). There are two pursuit days with three races on each and a prize for each race.
