Youth Activities
Banbury Sailing Club's Youth section is one of the most successful Youth programmes in the region. Here's why we think our Youth Section is so popular.
Training:
We are very proud of our qualified instructors - they take our juniors through the 4 stages of the RYA youth sailing syllabus in a fun and friendly manner. We work to develop the required sailing skills at each individuals speed, so we build and develop their confidence on the water. Many of our instructors have developed from being a non-sailing parent of one of our Youths!
Parental involvement is an important part of delivering our Youth program and we are blessed with the level of support we get from our parents, who help make our Youth sailing such a success. There are opportunities for Parents to learn to sail too at the same time as, but separate from, their children
Club Boats:
Your children don't need to own a boat in order to join our Youth section. The Club owns twelve Toppers (including Race Toppers), five Optimists, two Comets, three Laser Funs, four GP14s and three Laser 2000's along with two RS Fevas and one 420 for performance training. We also rent training boats from the RYA as needed
Cruising:
Youth Social Events
Events are held throughout the year including
- BBQs
- Family fun day involving water, children and parents
- Summer Camp
See the Events page for dates.
Racing:
We are an RYA Champion Club, so we hold frequent training sessions for developing racing skills and experience. We also actively support our juniors in travelling to Open Meetings
Club Race Series
Young racers are encouraged to participate in the Club racing series. Encouraging young sailors to race is extremely beneficial. It develops both race and general sailing skills. We offer a safe environment in which to experience what it's like to be in a 'proper' race situation as well as helping you with race rules.
Open Meetings
Young racers have their own open meetings at clubs around the county and country when they compete with Youth sailors from other clubs. We support our juniors to attend these. The first step is the Northamptonshire Youth Series of races held at sailing clubs throughout Northamptonshire. The more competent sailors compete in the National School Sailing Association events too.
If you are interested in Youth Sailing at Banbury Sailing Club, then the perfect opportunity is to come along to our next Open Day, where you can meet some of our Youth sailors, their instructors and parents, who will be happy to answer any questions.
