Level 2 Powerboat Handling

Code: PB2-1

This course is taking place over two days - 8th & 9th November 2025

Provides the skills and background knowledge needed by the competent powerboat driver and is the basis of the International Certificate of Competence. It aims to teach boat handling and seamanship in powerboats. It focuses on low speed close quarters handling, man overboard recovery, an introduction to driving at planing speed, and collision regulations.

Required experience:  None. May be preceded by Level 1 Start Powerboating

Minimum duration:  2 days

Minimum age:  12 (candidates under the age of 16 will be issued with an endorsed certificate)

Content:  Launching and recovery, boat handling, securing to a buoy, anchoring, leaving and coming alongside, man overboard

Certificate issuing criteria:  Self-sufficient powerboater in the right conditions, aware of own limitations and those of the craft

Format:  Predominantly practical but with some classroom elements.

Training Course Booking Terms and Conditions

Risk Statement
It must be recognised that sailing is by its nature an unpredictable sport and therefore inherently involves an element of risk. By taking part in the Event, you agree and acknowledge that:
(i) You are aware of the inherent element of risk involved in the sport and you accept responsibility exposing yourself to such inherent risk whilst taking part in the Event;
(ii) You will comply at all times with the instructions of the Event Co-ordinator particularly with regard to handling of boats, wearing of buoyancy aids and the wearing of suitable clothing for the conditions;
(iii) You accept responsibility for any injury, damage or loss to the extent caused by your own negligence;
(iv) You will not participate in the Event if your ability to participate is impaired by alcohol, drugs or if you are otherwise unfit to participate;
(v) You will inform the Event Co-ordinator if there have been any changes to the information provided on this form at the time of the Event.
(vi) The provision of safety boat cover is limited to such assistance as can be practically provided in the circumstances;
(vii) You are aware of any specific risks drawn to your attention by the Event Co-ordinator.

Payment
The full course payment is due upon booking your course. Payment is made through the club web site and PayPal
Cancellation by you
Should you have to cancel your booking the following charges will apply:

3-7 days or less 25%
Less than 3 days 50%

Cancellation by us
You understand that the Event Co-ordinator may cancel or postpone the Event at any stage in the event of bad weather, equipment failure or otherwise. In the unlikely event that part or all of a training course has to be cancelled by Banbury Sailing Club we will organise an alternative date to run the course at the next available opportunity.
Liability
Banbury Sailing Club cannot be held liable for personal injury however caused during your participation on a course or event unless through negligence of the club or its instructors.
Clothing
Banbury Sailing Club will provide the relevant, safety equipment such as life jackets or buoyancy aids depending on the activity or course applied for. You should provide/bring all other suitable clothing as detailed in your course joining instructions.

Certification
Banbury Sailing Club will provide RYA certificates and RYA log books appropriate to the course you are enrolled on. These are included in your course fees.
Membership
Banbury Sailing Club courses are provided only for club members. You must have current membership of the club before starting a course and for its entire duration.
Medical Conditions
You undertake to inform the Senior Instructor of any medical conditions which may affect your participation on the course or require specific first aid actions in the case of accident.
Problems or complaint
If during your course you have a problem or complaint to make initial contact should be made (verbally) to the instructor or Senior Instructor and also in writing by email to the training department using the contact details available on the website.
Photography
The club occasionally publishes pictures in its promotional material. By booking a course you grant to the club without payment the right in perpetuity to make, use and show any motion pictures, still pictures and live, recorded or filmed television of or relating to activities at the club of all those people covered by your booking.
